SYM Scooters

Launched in 1954 in Taipei by Huang Ji-Jun and Chang Kuo An, SYM Sanyang Industry Co. Ltd. manufactures and sells scooters around the world. In 1962 they formed a partnership with Honda to begin producing motorcycles in Taiwan. The relationship lasted until January 2002 when SYM’s own products began competing too closely with Honda’s. Now, company revenues exceed a billion dollars annually while employing over 2,400 factory workers.

SYM’s production factories are located in Taiwan, China and Vietnam where they are able to produce over one billion motorcycles/scooters and 35,000 automobiles each year. To date SYM has produced over 9 million scooters.

SYM has expanded globally through a number of partnerships with companies in key markets. They have partnered with Kinetic Motor in India where they will sell, market, distribute, and even manufacture SYM scooters. Hyundai cars in Taiwan are produced by SYM through an agreement with Hyundai Korea. In the USA SYM is distributed by Alliance Powersports.

Today SYM not only produces a number of different scooters, but they also produce several motorcycle models, a few trail bikes, several ATVs and most recently they have started to produce battery powered scooters.
