Kymco Scooters

Kymco (Kwang Yang Motor Company) Scooters was originally part of Honda but in 1963 it was spun off into a separate entity. Initially Kymco operated only as a parts supplier to Honda, but by 1970 Kymco produced its first scooter. Initially only sold to OEMs and ODMs, it wasn’t until 1992 that Kymco began selling scooters and other vehicles under the Kymco brand name, since then they have become Taiwan’s largest scooter manufacturer and the fifth largest in the world.

Today Kymco produces more than a half million scooters annually and employs over 3000 workers. Their headquarters is in Taiwan and they have factories spread across China, Indonesia and Taiwan. Their product line has expanded beyond scooters to include motorcycles, ATVs, mobility scooters, and electric scooters.

Kymco has gained a solid reputation as they have expanded across the globe. They currently distribute to 88 countries including the USA and Canada. Kymco USA is based in South Carolina and currently sells 15 scooters, 9 ATVs and the Venox 250 Cruiser. In Canada Kymco is distributed through BECO Motors Ltd. The NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) has selected Kymco as their official scooter and ATV and in 2008 Kymco began supplying engines to BMW for their G450 X Enduro bike.
